The 7 most important web design trends for 2018

We would like to use this Day of the Internet to tell you what the 7 web design trends are for 2018. Nothing is as changeable as trends. Was your site a few years ago still fresh and modern, now you can just walk behind the facts. When we talk about the design of a website, it is not just about a nice front. The trends we mention below also have an effect on performance and conversion.

1. Mobile first
More and more we are browsing on our phone instead of a computer or laptop. That is not a new trend, but we are now going to notice that a tipping point has been reached. Given the share of internet users on mobile, it is more and more logical to use this small screen as a starting point for a new design.

And you are therefore no longer the first to base on a desktop version. An additional advantage is that you have to think about the main message even better, given the limited space that a telephone screen offers. In the end, you will more easily arrive at the essence of your website.

2. Minimalism
A minimal design is an existing trend, which we will see more and more often in 2018. The time of 'flashy' web designs full of decorations and frills is over. In the end, that only depends on the main goal: conversion. An additional advantage: it makes web pages even lighter, and therefore faster. And speed is, of course, important for (mobile) internet traffic.

3. Authentic photography
This is perhaps the biggest trend in our overview. The importance of tailor-made, professional photography is an increasingly important issue for many brands and designers. Logically, it gives you all control over how you showcase your brand.
And an image says more than 1000 words, is not the saying for nothing. Of course, stock photography will not just disappear. But our expectation is that the use of ready-to-use images will decrease further in 2018, and authentic photography will win.

4. Video
Say images more than 1000 words, for video, this may be in tenfold. In any case, video - just like animation - easily catches your attention. Video has many applications and can be used for marketing and storytelling. Many established authorities on the internet also see the importance of video. Facebook, Twitter, and Google recently put more emphasis on movies, just to name a few giants.

5. Pronounced typography
The use of pronounced typography (the use of 'fonts' on a website) is increasing, now that all devices on which we use the internet offer more and more technical possibilities. The choice is also great. Just think about the many Google fonts that are now available. A bold or distinctive font gives a brand personality and creates the right atmosphere.
More than ever, brands and designers will seek out the boundaries of the typographic possibilities to make websites even more attractive. Especially now that websites often have a minimalist design, distinctive typography makes the difference.

6. Bold color use
2018 becomes - more than is already the case - the year of vibrant and striking colors. Where trademarks in the past often opted for 'web-safe' colors, there is growing awareness that you are distinguishing yourself from the rest with daring, original colors.
In that respect, the same applies to colors as in typography.

7. Cinemagraphs and scroll triggered animations
Cinemagraphs are located exactly between photos and videos. Not as heavy and slow as video, but striking and dynamic. Not only fun but also used to emphasize certain important aspects of your site. Consider, for example, the 360-degree view of a product.

Just like with cinemagraphs, you do not use scroll triggered animations because it looks fancy, but because of the added value. Well applied (as minimal as possible) these animations tempt the visitor to keep scrolling. And so the chances are that you can convey your message with conversion as the final goal. For example, Apple applies it very nicely. Need a Website With 2018 standards...? then Contact Us Now
